Scott Lee Richards
Scott Lee Richards was born on January 18, 1972 in Rapid City, SD to Anthony Richards, Sr. and Ramona (Siers) Lewis. Scott passed away on December 28, 2017 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Scott sang many traditional songs, he started singing in the 8th grade and it became a passion he strived to perfect. He would walk around with a drum stick in his back pocket and would join a group of singers whenever he could, even if he didn’t know them he would just sit right down and start to sing with them. He lived in the southern part of the country and traveled the pow-wow trail and won many different drum contests with the group he was with. He would sing all different kinds of tribal songs, honoring songs, and was also an avid flute player. Scott was a traditional and grass dancer. He sang and danced all over the country and was invited to many places to sing traditional songs.
Scott is survived by his parents, Anthony Richards, Sr. and Ramona (Siers) Lewis; aunt/mother, Sharyn Richards-Young; step-father, Jim Young of Rapid City, SD; children, Catalina Richards, Tanya Richards, and Akicita Richards all of Rapid City, SD; Sharon Two Crow and Christine Richards both of Kyle, SD, Katrina Yellow Thunder of Oglala, SD, Yvette Richards of Martin, SD, Shameena Richards and Moneena Richards both of Sturgis, SD; siblings, Anthony Richards, Jr., Daylene Blue Legs, Cody and Donald Poor Thunder all of Rapid City, SD, Adrianna Fawn Richards of Lawton, OK, Margaret “Maggie” Richards of Oregon, Kara Campbell of Michigan, and Jessica Richards of Tennessee; and 10 grandchildren.
Scott was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sam & Clementine Richards; uncle, Ben Richards; and cousin, Sam Richards.
Wake Services: Two night wake service starting at 5:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the LaCreek CAP Office in Martin, SD with a Vigil Service with Rosary at 7:00 PM, Friday, January 5, 2018 at the LaCreek CAP Office.
Funeral Services: 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the LaCreek CAP Office in Martin, SD
